Delivered Meals

North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious meals, social interaction and a friendly check of a client’s wellbeing, helping people live the lives they choose.

We provide a wide range of soups, main meals and desserts that target the changing nutritional needs of older people. Our deliveries are face-to-face – not just ‘drop and go’. Our volunteers care, and grow valuable connections with our clients, week after week, delivery after delivery.

Nutritional Benefits

  1. Our meals are nutritious for everyone, especially those over 65 or recovering from illness or injury.
  2. We cater for special dietary needs including low salt, gluten free, vegetarian, and texture modified.
  3. Older adults may eat less than they used to, but their need for nutrients such as protein, calcium, dietary fibre and folate is higher. Our meals provide this extra nutrition, supporting stronger bones, muscle strength and overall wellbeing.

Most supermarket ready-made meals don’t meet protein or calcium targets and can be high in sodium and fat. View a comparison of nutrition information for our meals compared to supermarket equivalents. Better still, talk to your GP or an Accredited Dietician about nutrition needs appropriate to your age.

Your choice and responsibility

All of our meals come with nutritional information and ingredients listed. These are on our website, on client menus and also printed on meals. Your client coordinator will be happy to discuss allergies or intolerances, or your need for texture-modified meals.

Variety & Quality

Just as important as nutrition, our meals taste great! Our menus are planned on a four-week rotation, with more than 30 meals to choose from. You could eat something different every day of the month or stick with a few of your favourites.

All of the meals we deliver are prepared in commercial kitchens, with qualified Food Safety Supervisors on duty. Our kitchens are regularly inspected and meet the high standards required when cooking for vulnerable people. Wherever possible, we source our ingredients locally.

Our new commercial kitchen in South Nowra will continue to produce our soups and desserts, and then start producing main meals for our local area, where possible concentrating on using local fresh produce.

Support at Home packages

If you are on a Support at Home (SaH) package, the Australian Government will give you a budget for services to help you stay independently in your own home. You still need to pay the meal costs of ingredient and packaging, while the Government, through your SaH budget, will cover administration and overhead costs.

Aged Care Act – changes from 1 November 2025

If you were on a Home Care Package (HCP) before 12 September 2024, there will minimal changes to your service from Meals on Wheels.

The Commonwealth Aged Care Act 2024, which commenced on 1 November 2025, is an update to the aged care system in Australia. It puts the needs and rights of older people at the centre of aged care.
